MSI Bulletin
INTERCEDING TOGETHER
In October, our colleagues will be going to visit university students at our school assistance project. All of the students are from Yiliang County, and we hope they will feel cared for and encouraged.
MR. YANG’S STORY
When I met Mr. Yang two years ago, I was told he had schizophrenia. His sister brought him to our Centre from another town.
TRANSFORMATION WORKSHOP
The transformation workshop teaches batik art, and is designed for individuals with intellectual and mental disabilities. At the start of the programme, some participants struggled to hold a brush, let alone freely and confidently create art.
DREAMS SPREAD YOUR WINGS AND FLY
The theme of this year’s four-day, three-night summer programme was “Dreams”. At first, the students found the topic a bit vague and difficult to grasp. After participating in various activities, they began to understand the theme, and became more and more engaged.
MOBILISATION INSPIRING KINGDOM DISCIPLES
Most of the articles in our Bulletin share about the impactful work of our faithful colleagues on the field, as they wholistically bless those whom they serve. But there is another aspect of our ministry, which is rarely highlighted but critically important to the continuation of God’s work. That, of course, is mobilisation.
INTERCEDING TOGETHER
We thank God that the 2025 Annual Work Plan and Budget for Sichuan Province has been approved by the relevant authorities. We pray that the recipients of our services will be helped.
A MARVELOUS TOUCH
An occupational therapist, who had participated in many of MSI’s short-term service teams, returned to Beichuan County for the first time after retiring. To the therapists and patients at the Beichuan People’s Hospital, the techniques he taught were amazing.
EXPANDING SERVICES SCOPE OF HOPE CLUBHOUSE
At the end of last year, Hope Clubhouse Rehabilitation Centre successfully acquired the right to run a practical training project for the community rehabilitation workers who serve people with mental disorders.
GOAT MILK PROGRAMME
At first, the goat milk programme was just an experiment. Nobody knew how it would turn out, or had any expectations. Yet as the experiment progressed, we gradually realised that not only did this programme have great growth potential, it also created opportunities.
BECAUSE OF THEM, I AM WILLING TO STEP OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE
At first, the goat milk programme was just an experiment. Nobody knew how it would turn out, or had any expectations. Yet as the experiment progressed, we gradually realised that not only did this programme have great growth potential, it also created opportunities. A consumer market slowly formed and several enterprises were ready to participate. As a result, our co-organisers also hope that this experiment will carry on.
THOUGHTS ON WORKING IN SPECIAL EDUCATION
Having been engaged in special education for more than a quarter of a century, I have learnt much from close to a thousand students, and I would like to share my experience here with you.
THE GRACE OF GOD LEADS OUR WAY
We have been serving as a couple in East Asia for more than two years. While learning the culture and adjusting to our life in this new location, we have gotten to know many local friends and like-minded people, through serving together and providing mutual support.
TAKING A DEEP BREATH
I take a deep breath, I look up to Him, and trust that the One who called me from the “ends of the earth” will use my life here for His Glory.
OUR PROFESSIONAL AND HOLISTIC MINISTRY
In 2009, our family joined MSI, and moved from New York to Chengdu, where I spent the first three years studying Chinese. Because of the serious HIV problem in Zhaojue, the government invited our organisation to partner with them to start an HIV hospital.
Interceding Together
Thank God that there are more people preparing to join us on the field soon. Many of them will need to learn language and culture before serving on the projects.
PEACE OF MIND IN OLD AGE
Our team has been visiting an elderly home for nearly two decades. Initially, there were twenty-nine seniors in the home, and since then the directorship of the elderly home has changed hands eight or nine times. Recently, the director asked us to provide past photos of the home, and we became the people who best knew its history.
THE LORD’S PROVISION
The sun shone brightly through the window into our hotel room, on the last day of our vision trip to Meigu county. The balmy weather was a timely blessing from our Father to the Meigu team, as it was the big day of the Meigu project site’s 20th anniversary celebration.
JEHOVAH JIREH
“I’ve got a job!” Within an hour, I heard Lucy repeat this loudly and excitedly more than three times. One could palpably feel her joy and pride. Her mother sat beside her smiling contentedly.
HE IS IN CONTROL
We are thankful for the successful completion of the July Summer Camp for the students from our School Assistance Project.
LOOKING FORWARD
We give thanks to God for his grace in MSI’s 30th years of history and service. Thousands of people, and dozens of projects and sites, have come and gone.
