PEACE OF MIND IN OLD AGE
by Sharon L
Our team has been visiting an elderly home for nearly two decades. Initially, there were twenty-nine seniors in the home, and since then the directorship of the elderly home has changed hands eight or nine times. Recently, the director asked us to provide past photos of the home, and we became the people who best knew its history.
We can recall a time when the kitchen was poorly equipped and full of cobwebs, and how we used to buy more than ten kilos of pork each time we visited the home, to fulfil their nutritional needs. Now the new canteen is spacious and clean, where about seventy seniors enjoy its nice environment and food, and eat better than we do!
In the early days, we provided services such as hair cutting, nail cutting, hair washing and foot washing to some residents who were unable to take care of themselves. These days, they have more than ten caregivers to serve them. We are most touched that our love has motivated some of the able-bodied seniors to learn to help other seniors with disabilities.
Using the multi-faceted wisdom He has given us, we have been able to motivate and inspire wheelchair-bound or physically disabled seniors to strengthen their muscles and bones, and train their caregivers with holistic care concepts and skills. Over the years, we have helped the elderly with their cognitive health, but we also hope that they have received a sense of peace in their old age, a peace that can only be found in Him. It is amazing that amidst difficult circumstances, a few seniors have found this divine peace and passed away with dignity. We give thanks to the Lord!
