A Blessed Recruit

A Blessed Recruit

The greatest impression I have joining this long-standing international organisation one and a half years ago is it still abides to its original vision and mission.

Marketplace Ministry was birthed in response to changes in our general environment. Through business, our professional skills give us a flexible way to get in touch with people and share the good news.

I was fortunate to join an established visitation and training service without going through the difficulties of pioneering the work. After completing the phase of language and culture learning, I officially began my service early last year. The first challenge I faced was changing from a task-oriented and authoritative school teacher to become a people-oriented companion of the sick.

Laying aside myself and my several-decades-old habit of being task-oriented was difficult and painful. I’m thankful for the comfort and encouragement from God and my brothers and sisters in Christ. Six months later, I saw the blessings brought about by this change. My mentor attested to the improvements in my caring skills, some sisters noticed the changes in my communication with others, a former colleague even said, “I feel more comfortable chatting with you now. You’re more compassionate and don’t just talk about work.“ I recognise the importance of connecting with others and once dropped in on a relative I didn’t know very well while I was on holiday. While attending a wedding in another city, I also took the opportunity to visit former colleagues and friends.

There is still a lot to learn on my journey to care for others, but I’m thankful that I’m on the right track!
